Sheer Curtains Maribyrnong
Maribyrnong is one of Melbourne’s most architecturally compelling inner-western suburbs — a riverside community of converted industrial spaces, contemporary apartments, and established homes where the quality of design is taken seriously and where window furnishings are part of the architectural brief, not an afterthought. At New World of Blinds, we’ve been supplying and installing custom sheer curtains for Maribyrnong homes since 2005, manufacturing everything at our Campbellfield facility and regularly servicing properties throughout the suburb and the surrounding inner-western areas.
As a family-owned business run by Matt and Oz, we bring nearly two decades of experience to every home we visit. Every sheer curtain is custom-made at our Campbellfield facility to your exact window measurements, installed by our own team — not subcontractors — and backed by our full 5-year warranty.
Wave/ S-Fold Curtains Maribyrnong
Wave/S-Fold curtains are one of the most popular types of curtains. Wave/S-fold curtains are the curtains that look just like a wave or a long S pattern that continues for the length of the window/wall and its covering. The soft flowing wave effect allows the fabric to drape stunningly, and the overall appearance creates a modern, trending look to your room/covering. Wave/S-fold curtains add a touch of class and elegance to your home. sheer blinds Maribyrnong

Eyelet Curtains
Eyelet curtains are where the top of the curtain has round eyelets or grommets pressed into the fabric. The curtain is then threaded onto a track/pole that threads through each of the eyelets in a wave like formation.
Why Maribyrnong Is One of Melbourne’s Best Suburbs for Sheer Curtains
Maribyrnong’s transformed residential landscape has produced some of Melbourne’s most interesting window furnishing challenges. Former industrial buildings converted to residential use often have warehouse-scale windows — large spans of glass, north or west-facing orientations, and a raw architectural quality where the treatment of the window is one of the most visible interior decisions in the space. Contemporary riverside apartments, similarly, are built around glazing: floor-to-ceiling windows facing the Maribyrnong River, views that were the primary reason for choosing the property, and large north and west-facing rooms that receive significant direct sun.
In both contexts, sheer curtains are the window treatment that performs at the highest level. They filter and diffuse direct sun through large glazed areas without breaking up the architectural quality of the glass. They provide genuine daytime privacy for river-facing and street-facing rooms without obscuring the views that define these homes. And in the right fabric — an S-Fold linen sheer on a ceiling-mounted track, floor to ceiling — they become part of the architectural language of the interior rather than a functional addition to it.
Sheer curtains deliver for Maribyrnong homes:
- UV and solar heat protection for large north and west-facing glazed facades.
- Daytime privacy for river-facing and street-facing rooms without obscuring the Maribyrnong River view.
- An architectural finish that suits converted industrial spaces, contemporary apartments, and riverside homes.
- Floor-to-ceiling coverage for warehouse-scale and apartment windows.
- UV protection for quality flooring, rugs, furniture, and art.
- Full layering with blockout curtains for complete evening and overnight privacy.
- Smart home compatibility with motorised curtain tracks — particularly relevant for Maribyrnong’s design-conscious tech-forward demographic.
Sheer Curtain Styles for Maribyrnong Homes
We offer four heading styles. Our team brings physical fabric samples to your Maribyrnong home during the free measure and quote visit.
S-Fold / Wave Curtains — The Maribyrnong Standard
S-Fold curtains are our most installed style across Melbourne and the clear first recommendation for Maribyrnong’s contemporary riverside apartments, converted industrial homes, and architecturally designed properties. The track-mounted clip system creates a perfectly uniform, continuous wave that suits the precision of contemporary interiors and the scale of large windows and warehouse glazing. Installed on a ceiling-mounted track — recessed into the ceiling for the cleanest result, or surface-mounted where the architecture permits — S-Fold sheers give a seamless floor-to-ceiling finish that reads as architecturally deliberate. They integrate naturally with motorised curtain tracks, which are particularly popular in Maribyrnong for river-facing rooms where manual operation at height or width is inconvenient.
Eyelet Curtains
Eyelet curtains thread onto a decorative rod through metal grommets in the fabric header. For Maribyrnong’s secondary spaces, bedrooms, and rooms where a slightly warmer, more textural approach suits the space better than the architectural precision of S-Fold, eyelet sheers on a matte black or brushed brass rod bring a considered, deliberate quality that suits design-conscious interiors. They work particularly well in rooms with exposed brick, raw concrete, or the mixed-material character of converted industrial buildings.
Linen Sheer Curtains — The Material of Choice
Linen sheer curtains are the fabric we recommend most consistently for Maribyrnong’s design-conscious homes. The organic texture and heavier hand of linen sheers bring a material depth that is entirely consistent with the architectural materials Maribyrnong homeowners are drawn to — exposed concrete, raw steel, timber, stone, and the warm, tactile palette that characterises the suburb’s best interiors. A floor-to-ceiling S-Fold linen sheer in natural linen or warm white is one of the most universally successful window treatments we install, precisely because it works equally well in a warehouse conversion with 4-metre ceilings and in a contemporary riverside apartment with standard floor-to-ceiling glazing.
Pleated Curtains
Pleated heading styles create a structured, tailored curtain silhouette. Less common in Maribyrnong’s predominantly contemporary housing stock, but appropriate for more traditionally designed rooms or homes with a classic interior approach.
River Views, Large Windows, and Privacy — The Maribyrnong Challenge
The defining window furnishing challenge in Maribyrnong is a familiar one for anyone who has chosen a home for its view: you need privacy from the street and from neighbouring properties, but you don’t want to lose the river outlook, the light, or the spatial quality that drew you to the property in the first place.
Sheer curtains are the only window treatment that solves this problem without compromise. During the day, the fabric filters direct sun and provides genuine privacy from the street and adjacent buildings, while maintaining the visual connection to the river or cityscape beyond the glass. You see out; passersby and neighbours don’t see in clearly. A roller blind drawn against the sun eliminates the problem but also eliminates the view. A quality sheer curtain keeps both.
For bedrooms and rooms that require complete overnight privacy, we recommend the double-track layered system — sheer curtains on the inner track, blockout curtains on the outer. During the day, draw the sheers alone for light management and privacy while preserving the view. In the evening, draw the blockout layer for complete privacy and darkness.

Frequently Asked Questions - FAQs
Do you supply and install sheer curtains in Maribyrnong?
Yes. New World of Blinds supplies and installs custom sheer curtains throughout Maribyrnong and across the surrounding inner-western Melbourne suburbs including Footscray, Maidstone, Avondale Heights, Essendon, Moonee Ponds, and Ascot Vale. All curtains are custom-made at our Campbellfield manufacturing facility and installed by our own team. Call 0422 786 077 to book a free in-home measure and quote.
Can sheer curtains preserve the Maribyrnong River view from my apartment or riverside home?
Yes — and this is the primary reason Maribyrnong homeowners choose sheer curtains for their river-facing living areas. The semi-transparent fabric filters direct sun and provides daytime privacy from neighbouring properties and the street while maintaining the visual connection to the river. Unlike a roller blind drawn against the afternoon sun, a quality sheer curtain keeps the room comfortable and keeps the view intact. For complete overnight privacy, we recommend pairing sheers with a blockout layer on a double-track system.
What sheer curtain style suits a converted industrial or warehouse-style home in Maribyrnong?
S-Fold sheer curtains on a ceiling-mounted track are our most recommended style for Maribyrnong’s converted industrial and warehouse-style homes. The continuous, uniform wave suits the architectural scale of large windows and warehouse glazing, and looks clean and deliberate at full height. Linen sheer fabrics are our most recommended material — their organic texture and heavier hand sit naturally alongside exposed concrete, raw steel, and timber. For rooms with exposed brick and a more relaxed industrial character, eyelet sheers on a matte black rod bring exactly the right quality.
Can sheer curtains be motorised in a Maribyrnong apartment?
Yes. We install motorised curtain tracks compatible with Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Apple HomeKit. Motorised S-Fold sheer curtains are one of our most popular installations in Maribyrnong and across Melbourne’s inner-western apartment market. They are particularly practical for river-facing rooms with wide or high windows, and for homeowners setting up smart home systems where curtain automation is part of the brief. We supply and commission all motorisation ourselves as part of the installation.
How do sheer curtains handle the large glazed windows in Maribyrnong riverside apartments?
Floor-to-ceiling S-Fold sheers on a ceiling-mounted track are the most effective solution for large glazed apartment windows. The continuous wave runs the full width of the glass, filtering sun and providing privacy without breaking up the architectural quality of the window. For maximum thermal performance on large north or west-facing glazed areas, we recommend layering with blockout curtains on a double-track system. We measure every window precisely during the free in-home visit.
